A Scaffolding Victory for our Maritime Past

A specialised 21st century scaffolding access and protection solution was requiredduring the latest stage of the conservation of 18th century HMS Victory at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard:

• Fully enclosed scaffolding installation, designed by PHD Modular Access Services Ltd (Heritage Division) – supported by Layher’s UK Technical Department – workingfor The National Museum of the Royal Navy.

• Weathertight enclosure enables vital conservation work and public viewing accessto continue. Safe and reliable platforms with clear Protect panels are essential parts of the structure.

• The installation was craned into position over the 62 metres high vessel.

• Public platforms and temporary building are designed to be moved along the 227 feet length of the ship as work progresses.

• The live exhibit has to remain open to the public at all times – an importantconsideration during the scaffold design stage.
