News LAYHER INTRODUCES
ENHANCEMENT OF SAFE SCAFFOLD INSTALLATION
Leading system scaffolding manufacturer, Layher Ltd.,
has introduced a new development to the UK market that
is designed to simplify safe working procedures during the
erection of a scaffold structure. The Layher Advanced
Guard Rail System® has been developed to provide
scaffolding erectors with a pre-fixed guard rail that is
simply located progressively at the relevant working
height – virtually eliminating the need for harness
use.
The concept features a tubular telescopic rail that is
raised using two vertical sections that connect to the
standards of an existing bay. This automatically
provides protection for the construction of the next
lift with the guard rail then simply disconnected and
relocated as the structure proceeds.
The system extends to between 2 metres to 3.07 metres
allowing corresponding bay lengths to be accommodated
with no restriction to grid size. Importantly, a
combination of bay lengths can be protected by simply
bridging across one standard of the scaffold.
“Apart from enhancing safe procedures, this also reduces
the number of guard rail posts required and therefore
material cost on site,” comments Layher UK’s Managing
Director, Sean Pike. “This is enhanced by the system’s
ergonomic design and the fact that it can be erected and
dismantled with no special tool requirement.
Additionally,” he says, “the post standards are
manufactured from aluminium and are therefore
lightweight making them useable by one scaffold erector
as well as being easier to transport and stow.”
The company has introduced two options to its Advanced
Guard Rail System® – a single unit which complies with
NASC guidance note SG4:00 and a double alternative which
exceeds SG4:00 and complies fully with HSE requirements.
The company has also developed the product to be
cross-compatible for use with its Allround® and
SpeedyScaf® modular systems and, because a common
telescopic guard rail is utilised, equipment costs are
kept to a minimum.
“We believe this is an important addition to our
extensive range of components,” concludes Sean Pike,
“and comes at a time when, correctly, safety and
efficient operation are high on the list for every
scaffolding installation. We believe the Layher Advanced
Guard Rail System® offers specific benefits which will
be recognised by everybody involved in the industry.”
